On March 2016, the Canadian ship-owner Seaspan launched the first ferries equipped with the new Wärtsilä LNGPac.
This all-in-one system allows the LNG storage, the LNG conversion into natural gas and its safe combustion. The LNGPac contributes to reducing CO2, NOx and SOx emissions. Pioneer of the Dual-Fuel hybrid engines, Wärtsilä has chosen MECA-INOX to equip its LNGPac with high performance ball valves solutions: Diverter, Bunkering Station and Vapor Return.
Result of a collaboration between MECA-INOX and WÄRTSILÄ, these specific valves designs obtained Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register and DNV certifications.
Equipped with a three-ways valve, safety valves, pressure sensors and a nitrogen flushing system, the Bunkering Station ensures the LNG ships tanks filling from on-land tanks and the inerting of the filling line.
The Vapor Return, with a similar composition, enables the return of LNG vapors during the filling of LNG ship tanks and the inerting of this line.
The Diverter is constituted by a three-way valve and an interlocking key system and secures the maintenance of LNG tank’s safety valves.
These first ferries launching mark the start of LNG marine valves deliveries and confirm MECA-INOX’s will to be partner in the creation of solutions for this constraining market.
